PALATKA, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2019) – Putnam Community Medical Center, an HCA North Florida hospital, has recently opened six newly constructed rooms in the Emergency Department wing of the hospital. These additional rooms were constructed within the existing structure of the building to streamline design and increase the Emergency Room capacity without major interruption in services.
Also, added to the department is a newly constructed triage area, to improve efficiency of patient care to those with emergency healthcare needs. The triage space not only allows for patients to be cared for in a quicker manner, but also at a higher level of acuity more immediately. With the addition of a check-in window security structure and interior entrance to the emergency care area, patients and staff will continue to interact in an environment that is secure and isolated.
In total within this expansion of emergency services at Putnam Community Medical Center, six emergency care patient rooms were added to the previously utilized eighteen. This increase to 24 patient care rooms, raises the hospital’s emergency services capacity to approximately 133% of what it had previously been.
Last year the hospital had just under 47,500 patients seen in the Emergency Department alone. The total construction buildout was roughly $1.8 million and began in January of 2018. The completion of this build out phase is the first of a two step ER expansion at Putnam Community Medical Center.
“Putnam Community Medical Center is always working to care for our friends and neighbors in and around Palatka at a higher level.” Mark Dooley, CEO of Putnam Community Medical Center remarked, “We recognize that a need in our community is access to fast and high quality emergency healthcare, and this investment by our company is a big step in that direction.
